I-80 Nescopeck Creek Bridges Project

Project Overview Map

PennDOT held a public meeting at the Nescopeck Township Office on February 29th, 2024, concerning the I-80 Nescopeck Creek Bridge Project.  The project consists of the replacement of the two bridges carrying I-80 eastbound and westbound over Nescopeck Creek in Black Creek Township, Luzerne County. The existing dual structures were built in 1965 and last repaired in 2005. Combined, the bridges carry an average of 33,000 vehicles per day, approximately 36 percent of which are trucks.  The project is moving forward under the Major Bridge P3 program, without tolling.

The heart of the I-80 Nescopeck Creek Bridges Project covers approximately a 1-mile segment of I-80 for replacement of the mainline dual bridges that cross Nescopeck Creek (see project overview map).  The proposed design will widen the bridges to current design standards.  The total cost for the project is estimated to be $98 million.

Draft conditions after construction is completed

Starts: Spring 2024          Ends: Fall 2027

During construction, two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained on I-80. During off-peak hours,  (6pm to 2pm) traffic on I-80 may be reduced to 1 lane (only if needed.)

During the first stage of the project, the adjacent road, Tank Rd, will need to be detoured to allow better access for the construction crews.
